Filtration
The filter is the most important part of the pool's circulation system. Pool water cannot be regarded as satisfactory for use, however adequately disinfected, if it contacins small particles, dead bacteria and fine debris in suspension.
The filter removes these, keeping the water clean and clear.
Types of filter
The most commonly used are sand filters. These consist of finely graded silica sand and with proper use the sand will remain in the filter tank for many years, although it is recommended that the sand be changed approximately every three years. Cartridge filters are used for mainly above ground pools and spas. Diatomaceous Earths (DE) are rarely used.
We at Mister Sparkle Swimming Pools are able to advise you on the correct filter for your pool and requirements.
Turnover Rate
The "turnover rate" is the time taken for the total volume of water which is equal to the pools capacity to pass through the filter. Eg. If your pool holds 14,000 gallons of water, the turnover rate would be the time it takes for the 14,000 gallons to pass through the filter.
Most domestic pools, with an average of 15,000 gallons will have a turnover rate of approximately 6 - 8 hours.
The size of the filter you require is determined by the size of your pool and the estimated usage.
Heating
There are two main points to be considered when deciding upon a heating system:
If the water tempertaure is too high, evaporation and the rate of chlorine consuption both increase, affecting the waters balance.
If the water is too cool, this can cause a rapid loss of body heat from the bather and could lead to reluctance to bathe.
